Meet Monty

Monty Ashliman is a decorated Navy Officer and the proud father of three children who graduated from Virginia Beach Public Schools.

His family has been deeply rooted and active in the Virginia Beach community for many years. Monty has volunteered with Virginia Beach Parks and Rec, coaching youth basketball and overseeing the Thalia-Malibu Rec Basketball League for over eight years.

Monty recently retired as a Navy Captain with over 32 years of Active Duty. He was a TOPGUN Instructor, teaching at the Navy's highest institute of learning. He also served as the Commanding Officer of an FA-18 Super Hornet squadron and a major Navy installation, overseeing the safety and well-being of 30,000 personnel, significant budgets, and expansive facilities.

Monty's Priorities

Promotion of Academic Excellence

Keep the focus on what matters most, the academics. Students cannot continue to fall behind in subjects such as reading and math. Academic excellence will ensure all students are best prepared for the road ahead as the future leaders of our community.

Support of Teachers

We must attract and retain quality teachers who want to make a positive impact in the lives of students. Resources must be prioritized in the classroom to support the Virginia Beach Public Schools mission statement to "Put Students First," and Administrations must support their teachers.

Parental Involvement

Parents should feel confident that Virginia Beach Public Schools are most effectively developing the best educational interests of students. Parents are crucial to the continuation of student development and open communication with parents is imperative.
